Internships
The ICJ has a long history of offering young graduates the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience in an organisation dedicated to the legal protection and promotion of human rights.

Internships are usually for a minimum of two months and no longer than six months, based on a fixed-term agreement. Opportunities exist for both legal and non-legal internships.

ICJ Interns become part of a team of junior support staff and their responsibilities are based on the intern's interests as well as the needs of the ICJ. All interns will be expected to undertake some administrative duties in addition to their substantive tasks. Interns are assigned a designated supervisor for the duration of their internship, who will act as mentor and ensure the diversity of professional experiences offered to interns.

Requirements

Interns are generally expected to:
-  be highly motivated and dedicated to the legal protection and promotion of human rights;
-  be between 22 - 28 years old at the commencement of their internship;
-  hold a degree in international law, human rights law, international human rights law, political science or a related field;
-  be able to work as part of a multicultural team and willing to apply themselves in a frequently pressurised environment;
-  have spoken and written fluency in English and/or French; and
-  be financially independent for the duration of their internship.

Conditions

Unfortunately the ICJ is not in a position to offer any financial remuneration to interns.

-  All interns will receive a fixed-term contract based on the above conditions;
-  All interns are responsible for all expenses and costs incurred in undertaking an internship with the ICJ. On a discretionary basis the ICJ may offer expense re-imbursement for local travel costs and lunch allowance;
-  All interns must hold valid working papers for Switzerland. On a discretionary basis the ICJ will apply for working papers for interns. However, in such instances, interns must provide proof of financial independence; and
-  All interns are responsible for their own health care and are bound to provide proof of health care insurance prior to the commencement of their internship.

Interns may not apply for permanent positions with the ICJ for a minimum of one year after the completion of their internship.
