The ICJ today expressed its concern at the increasing instances of harassment and persecution of lawyers in Belarus following the recent suppression of protests at the outcome of the presidential elections.
The attacks include the initiation and endorsement of disbarment proceedings against lawyers by the Ministry of Justice and attempts to stifle their exercise of freedom of expression.

Entre los días 6 y 10 de diciembre de 2010, la CIJ llevó a cabo una misión de alto nivel a Honduras, con el fin de observar la situación de la independencia judicial.
La delegación de la CIJ mantuvo reuniones con organizaciones de la sociedad civil, defensores de los derechos humanos, dirigentes comunitarios, dirigentes sociales, autoridades de gobierno al más alto nivel, representantes de la Comunidad Internacional, organismos intergubernamentales, representantes del Organismo Legislativo y otros actores relacionados con el derecho de acceso a la justicia y la independencia del Poder Judicial. La visita se enmarcó dentro de los esfuerzos que la CIJ lleva a cabo en distintos países para acompañar el proceso de democratización de la justicia y el respeto a la independencia judicial.

The ICJ today expressed its concern at the approval by referendum of the popular initiative on the expulsion of foreigners.
The initiative, if implemented according to the terms set out in the referendum proposal, would lead to the automatic expulsion of non-nationals convicted of serious crimes.
