It has become a tradition that the ICJ’s Centre for the Independence of Judges and Lawyers produces an annual account of the measures taken during the year against individual judges or lawyers or which undermine the judiciary and the legal profession as a whole.

Frente a informes de diversas organizaciones mexicanas e intergubernamentales de derechos humanos, la Comisión Internacional de Juristas dispuso en marzo de 1999 el envío de una Misión a México.
La Misión tuvo como objetivo recopilar información sobre la situación de los derechos humanos, y más especialmente en el Distrito Federal de México y los Estados de Chiapas, Guerrero y Oaxaca y al mismo tiempo dar seguimiento a la anterior misión llevada a cabo por la Clj en febrero de 1994, y sobre la cual ya hemos publicado un informe.

La CIJ ha venido siguiendo muy de cerca a lo largo de 25 años, la situación de los derechos humanos en Chile. Ello ha sido así desde el momento en que el General Augusto Pinochet derrocó al Gobierno democrático que dirigía el Dr. Salvador Allende.
En efecto, el 16 de Octubre de 1998 Pinochet fue arrestado en Londres a solicitud de un Juez de la Audiencia Nacional de España, el Sr. Baltasar Garzón, que quiere extraditarlo a este país para que allí haga frente a una serie de acusaciones por genocidio, terrorismo y torturas.
