At the request of the children rights’ organization Defence for Children International, Palestine Section (DCI/PS), jurists appointed by the Swedish section of the ICJ as trial observers twill go to the West Bank to be present at trials in Israeli Military Courts.

In the tenth hearing of the re-trial of Leyla Zana and three other Kurdish former parliamentarians, who have been detained since 1994, the ICJ found that the defendants’ right to an independent and impartial tribunal as well as their right to liberty and security had been consistently violated.

Four Turkish lawyers who were charged with “professional misconduct” for having represented villagers evicted from their homes by Turkish security forces were acquitted on 24 December. The ICJ concludes that the criminal charge amounted to harassment and intimidation of Turkish lawyers.

El Centro para la Independencia de Jueces y Abogados de la CIJ presenta el informe de su misión a Honduras, que tuvo lugar en septiembre de 2003.
El informe presenta un detallado estudio del sistema de justicia hondureño y de los problemas que éste sufre, como así también un análisis del conflicto de competencias entre el Congreso y la Corte Suprema y del conflicto en el Colegio de Abogados.
Se formulan asimismo conclusiones y recomendaciones dirigidas al Gobierno, el Poder Judicial y los abogados.

The ICJ’s Centre of the Independence of Judges and Lawyers monitored the re-trial of former Kurdish MP’s Leyla Zana and her co-defendants. The hearing took place at Ankara State Security Court on 21 November 2003.
