During the 57th Session of the United Nations Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights the ICJ made an oral intervention on the realization of economic, social and cultural rights under Agenda Item Four.

The ICJ is advising you of an NGO Advocacy Coordination and Development Workshop for the campaign for an Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, to be held on Thursday 8 September and Friday 9 September 2005, in Nantes, France.
On 25 July 2005 the ICJ made an oral intervention at the 57th Session of the United Nations Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights under Agenda Item 1 (Organization of work).
The ICJ released its report entitled “Reforming the Human Rights System: A Chance for the United Nations to fulfil Its Promise.”
The report expresses support for proposals to replace the UN Commission on Human Rights with a standing human rights council with a higher position in the UN system.
It sets out how a new council can strengthen the UN’s work in addressing serious human rights situations at the country and thematic levels and in human rights standard-setting.

La CIJ publie son rapport intitulé “Réformer le système des droits de l’Homme: une occasion pour les Nations Unies de tenir leur promesse”.
Le rapport approuve la proposition de remplacer la Commission des droits de l’Homme des Nations Unies par un conseil permanent situé à un niveau plus élevé dans la structure de l’Organisation.
Il prévoit comment un nouveau conseil pourrait renforcer le travail des Nations Unies pour examiner les graves violations des droits de l’Homme à la fois au niveau des pays et sur une base thématique, et pour élaborer de futures normes de droits de l’Homme.
