The judicial system is subject to the military regime and is used to support a policy of repression.

The Judiciary Law does not contain any provisions regarding security of tenure or protection from arbitrary removal and the military government has a clear role in appointing judges to the courts.

During the last few years many lawyers have had their licences withdrawn for their alleged involvement in politics.
