The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) today launched an advocacy leaflet and infographic, together with video interviews featuring civil society organisations (CSOs) from Thailand’s Southern Border Provinces (SBPs).

These materials summarise pressing concerns and recommendations raised by UN human rights bodies on advancing the rights of women and girls in the region. They are designed to support civil society partners in effectively advocating for legislative and policy reforms.

The resources draw on recommendations made by the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW Committee) in its Concluding Observations of 10 July 2025, following its review of Thailand’s compliance with the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

The Committee identified several urgent issues affecting women and girls in the SBPs, particularly in relation to:

  • Women, Peace and Security (WPS)
  • Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs)
  • Education
  • Health
  • Harmful Practices
  • Marriage and Family Relations

The materials also reflect findings of the UN Working Group on Discrimination against Women and Girls, which conducted an official visit to Thailand from 2–13 December 2024. In its May 2025 report, the Working Group raised additional concerns, including widespread domestic and gender-based violence in the SBPs.
