In his report to the Commission (E/CN.4/2004/9), the Special Rapporteur on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography identified groups at greater risk of trafficking and sexual exploitation, including children belonging to ethnic minorities and indigenous peoples, those living in extreme poverty, street children, migrants, homosexuals, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender children. He further stated that transgender youth could be especially vulnerable to entering into prostitution because of adverse reactions from family and peers to their gender and sexuality, often leaving them alone and unsupported. Young transgender people experienced discrimination when trying to find accommodation, obtain an education, get a job and access health services, making them among the most vulnerable and marginalized young people in society.
