Report of the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, E/CN.4/2001/9/Add.1, January 17, 2001: El Salvador

175. The Special Rapporteur transmitted an urgent appeal to the Government of El Salvador on 3 December 2000 expressing her outrage at continued reports of killings of gay men and transvestites in El Salvador. The Special Rapporteur was informed that a transvestite known as “Walter/Walquiria” was shot and killed in the early hours of 19 November 2000 in San Salvador. A young man who was with him, Orlando Sánchez, was wounded in the incident and is currently recovering in hospital.[79]
