468. On 12 August 2004, the Special Rapporteur sent an urgent appeal regarding an official bill on the punishment of crimes linked to the Internet. According to the information received, the bill proposed a legislative framework that could contravene international standards on freedom of expression. […] The bill reportedly proposed sentences of up to one year in prison and a fine of 10 million rials for offences such as “sexual organs or sexual acts – heterosexual, homosexual or with animals”.
