The Secretary-General of the ICJ, Adama Dieng, officially informed the Executive Committee at its meeting on 6 May 2000, of his decision to resign as of 8 May 2000.

Adama Dieng, a Senegalese jurist, has been named Secretary-General of the ICJ, it was announced today in Geneva. Dieng replaces Niall MacDermot who headed the ICJ for 20 years and who retired last month.
Effective July 1st, 1961, Sir Leslie Munro, K.C.M.G., K.C.V.O., will succeed Dr. Jean-Flavien Lalive as Secretary-General of the ICJ.
