Summary: In light of Turkey’s candidacy for the European Union, Mr. Paul Richmond, Expert on Turkey and Barrister (England & Wales), analyses recent legislative reforms intended to strengthen democracy, the rule of law and the protection of human rights. He concludes that Turkey must take stronger measures to protect the independence of judges and lawyers.
