The ICJ reiterated today its urgent call on UN Member States to establish a mechanism for missing and disappeared people in Syria on the occasion of the interactive dialogue with the Commission of inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic.
The ICJ denounced today the ongoing civil society crackdown through Egypt’s abuse of counter-terrorism measures at the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights while Countering Terrorism.

We are writing to raise our deep concerns about the Iranian authorities’ mobilization of their well-honed machinery of repression to ruthlessly crackdown on current nationwide protests.
As it concludes its 50th session, the UN Human Rights Council has shown that it can act to address the human rights situations in countries in crisis, such as Libya, Syria, Belarus, Afghanistan, Sudan and Eritrea. It also has been able to withstand fierce opposition from retrograde States to work to protect those suffering violence and discrimination based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. However, the Council continues to fail to address some of the direst human rights situations in powerful countries, such as the Russian Federation and China.
The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) made a submission for the Committee’s review of Sri Lanka in its 135th session to be held in June-July 2022. The ICJ brings to the Committee’s attention a select range of areas where Sri Lanka has failed to comply with its ICCPR obligations. This limited submission is without prejudice to numerous other areas in which Sri Lanka may be in violation of the Covenant.
