Today, the ICJ condemned the murder of the chief prosecutor of the Andalusia regional court, Mr. Luis Portero, on 9 October in Granada.
His murder is not only a personal tragedy for the family of the victim but poses a threat to the judicial system of the country.
Mr. Portero was shot and killed outside his house in Granada. His killing is widely attributed to the Basque separatist movement ETA, which has claimed 12 murders alone this year.
The ICJ supports the Spanish authorities in their efforts to fully investigate this crime and bring the perpetrators to justice in accordance with the Rule of Law and to continue to provide security for judicial officers and staff in and around courtrooms.
