Reservations to the Convention on the Rights of the Child: a look at the reservations of Asian State Parties
The document consists of three parties. The first is a general review of the basic rules regarding reservations to treaties. The second part contains a country-by-country review, outlining the reservations made by Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Myanmar, Pakistan and Thailand. The third part contains conclusions, focusing on the best strategies for NGO advocacy with regard to these reservations to the Convention of the Rights of the Child.

The ICJ deplores arrest of former Indian High Court Judge
The ICJ today expressed concern to the Government of India about the arrest of a former Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Ajit Singh Bains, on 3 April.
Crimes against humanity in Bangladesh
In April 1972, Niall MacDermot, Q.C, Secretary-General of the ICJ, paid a visit to Dacca with two objects in view.
The first was to obtain further information for the study which the staff of the International Commission of Jurists was preparing on the events in East Pakistan in 1971. The second was to seek to persuade the government of Bangladesh that, if, as stated, they were going to bring to trial senior Pakistani generals and officials on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity, they should do so under international penal law before an international tribunal containing a majority of judges from neutral countries.
In order to explain why this was urged upon the Bangladesh government,the nature of the violations of human rights which occurred on both sides will be outlined briefly, followed by comments upon their implications under international penal law, before dealing with the trial procedures which the Commission suggested should be followed.

Mission of Sir Leslie Munro to Pakistan
The newly-appointed Secretary-General of the ICJ, Sir Leslie Munro, will be visiting Karachi in mid-January in connection with a three-month mission to the Far East.
