Despite opposition from human rights organizations and the telecommunications industry, the European Union has adopted a new directive that requires telephone and Internet data to be stored for six months to two years. In parallel, EU Justice Ministers have adopted a new anti-terrorism strategy aimed at combating radicalization and recruitment to terrorism, recommending measures such as strengthening border security and improving the monitoring of places of recruitment.
