The Supreme Court ordered the release of Tamil journalist Maunasami Parameswaree, detained for four months without charge under Emergency Regulations in force since August 2005, on suspicion of ties with the Liberation Tamil Tigers Eelam (LTTE). The ICJ has raised concerns about the application of Emergency Regulations in Sri Lanka and their compliance with international human rights law.
