La ICJ ed l’ASGI organizzano un seminario per giudici, giudici di pace, avvocati ed altri operatori legali e studiosi sui principi e le norme di diritto internazionale ed europeo applicabili al controllo giurisdizionale della detenzione dei migranti ed alla protezione dei richiedenti asilo.
Il seminario sarà suddiviso in due giornate, con ampi spazi per discussione:
La prima giornata (venerdì 14 settembre – 14:30 – 19:00), dopo un excursus generale sul diritto internazionale ed europeo in rispetto al diritto italiano, analizzerà la normativa e la giurisprudenza internazionale sul diritto al controllo giudiziale della detenzione dei migranti.
La seconda giornata (sabato 15 settembre – 8:30 – 13:30) analizzerà in maniera più dettagliata la normativa e la giurisprudenza internazionale in materia di protezione internazionale con ampi riferimenti alla situazione attuale italiana.

To be more visible to a wider audience and ensure that its wealth of legal resources and advocacy work are made accessible, the ICJ undertook to modernise its visual identity and main communications tool in 2012; a year that coincides with the organization’s 60th anniversary.
The new ICJ logo and visual identity has been developed by the well-known Swiss artist and designer Roger Pfund, who has shown his commitment to the protection of human rights through past collaborations with organisations such as Amnesty International (Switzerland), Human Rights Watch and the Geneva Call.
The new brand retains the flame and globe found within the ICJ’s previous logos, but gives them a more modern style. The new logo also reinforces the significance of the ICJ acronym.
The new ICJ website has been developed by HURIDOCS – an international NGO that supports human rights organizations by helping them efficiently utilise information technologies and documentation methods. The Atelier Roger Pfund worked on the design of the new website.
One of the main features of the new website is its sophisticated search tool, which allows visitors to easily filter and navigate through the vast collection of ICJ publications, submissions and other expert documents.
“The ICJ is extremely privileged to have worked with Roger Pfund and HURIDOCS. The result has fully met our expectations,” said Wilder Tayler, ICJ’s Secretary General. “Both partners have invested a lot of time and expertise in this collaboration and have carried out a significant proportion on a pro bono basis, for which we are very grateful.”
ICJ’s new visual identity will be progressively implemented until the organization’s 14th World Congress in December.

It is with great sadness that the International Commission of Jurists received the news of the passing of Dr. Jean-Flavien Lalive. He was one of the pillars of our organisation in its early days.
Dr. Lalive was involved in the work of the ICJ for over fifty years. As the Secretary-General from 1958 to 1961, Dr. Lalive played a vital role in establishing our organization in the international human rights community. He is especially noted for bringing the ICJ closer to the United Nations, both in terms of the organization’s political relationships and our physical location. Under his leadership, the ICJ gave more pronounced support for the international standards and enforcement procedures advocated by the UN. He was also responsible for moving the ICJ Secretariat’s headquarters from The Hague to Geneva, where it remains to this day.
While at the ICJ, Dr. Lalive continued to direct the organization’s efforts towards the search for universal procedural and substantive safeguards required for the proper administration of justice, while seeking to encompass the world’s different legal traditions. At the ICJ’s Congress in New Delhi in 1959, Dr. Lalive helped to define principles of the Rule of Law and Human Rights. The Declaration of Delhi, in particular, was to prove a seminal instrument in shaping the Rule of Law, with its conception of the Rule of Law as “a dynamic concept for the expansion and fulfillment of which jurists are primarily responsible and which should employed…to safeguard and advance [human] rights.”
Dr. Lalive later served as an Honorary Member of the ICJ, supporting the work of our organization at conferences and missions over many decades.
Dr. Lalive was an outstanding jurist and an exceptional advocate for human rights and the Rule of Law. He will be truly missed both by our organization and the wider human rights community.

On 3-4 July, the ICJ and UNHCR organised a workshop for lawyers across Europe on the principle of non-refoulement and the right to an effective remedy.
On 3-4 July, the ICJ and UNHCR organised a workshop for lawyers across Europe on the principle of non-refoulement and the right to an effective remedy. The workshop, which took place at the European Court of Human Rights’ premises, focussed on the Strasbourg Court’s jurisprudence and on the practice and procedure related to interim measures before the court.
