The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), in collaboration with the Nationwide Movement “Yuksalish” and the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Regional Office for Central Asia (ROCA), has announced the launch of the first Human Rights Summer School on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ESCR) in Uzbekistan from 14 to 18 August.
Organized within the framework of “Enhancing the Quality of Uzbekistan’s Application of International Law (EQUAL)”, funded by the European Union, this five-day educational course stands to make a real impact in advancing human rights education in Uzbekistan.

On 7 August 2023, the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), the Extra-Territorial Obligation Watch Coalition (ETO Watch Coalition) and Land Watch Thai (LWT) filed a joint submission for the preparation by the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) of a List of Issues (LOI) for the examination of Lao PDR’s initial report under the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).

Today, the High Court in Pretoria was due to hear the matter of Democratic Alliance v The President of South Africa and Others. The Court agreed to hear the Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC) and the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) as joint amicus curiae (friends of the court). The matter was however settled between the parties prior to the hearing in which the state has agreed to apply for an arrest warrant for President Putin.
