11 April 2024: the International Institute of Social Studies conference will offer critical analysis of the Suriname Atrocity Crimes trial against former president Desi Bouterse
Jointly organized by Legal Mobilization Platform, the Dutch foundation Judges for Judges and International Commission of Jurists, the conference will focus on the Suriname Atrocity Crimes trial that, after a final appeal at the Hof van Justitie Court in Paramaribo, led to a confirmation of conviction and sentence against former President Desi Bouterse and others on 20 December 2023.
The objective of this event is to critically analyze and raise awareness of the case and its longer-term implications, not only for Suriname, but for international criminal justice generally.
