The ICJ in its intervention of 25 March 2008 urged the Government of China to permit the Tibetan people to exercise their rights to demonstrate peacefully and to express their views about the situation in Tibet.
The ICJ also called for a prompt and independent international investigation into allegations of the human rights violations.
The ICJ concluded that the Tibetan people have a right to self-determination and that a referendum of the Tibetan people to determine the future status of the region would significantly contribute to resolving the political conflict in Tibet.

The ICJ in its intervention of 19 March 2008 regretted that violence has erupted again in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), following last year’s election.
Of particular concern are the massive and systematic human rights violations taking place in the East of the country, in Kivu, which have been committed by militias, rebel forces and the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC).
The ICJ supported the renewal of the mandate of the Independent Expert, to assist the Government in preventing further violations, resolving the problem of impunity and bringing the military tribunal system into conformity with international standards and with the Constitution.

The ICJ in its intervention of 14 March 2008 welcomed the recent political settlement in Kenya and urged all parties to implement the agreement.
In Sri Lanka, the ICJ urged the establishment of the OHCHR’s monitoring and assistance field presence. To heal the wounds to the rule of law in Pakistan, the Government must repeal the amendments to the Constitution and laws passed during the State of Emergency, as well post-Emergency laws that reaffirm or extend emergency measures. In Zimbabwe, a genuine electoral process will require that the Government allow the accreditation of independent election observers and put an end to political violence.
