The ICJ today delivered a statement before the UN Human Rights Council denouncing the increasing human rights violations in Nicaragua and calling on the authorities in Nicaragua and other parties to lend all support and collaboration to the Council’s Group of Human Rights Experts in investigating human rights violations.

En un documento publicado hoy, la Comisión Internacional de Juristas (CIJ) llama la atención sobre los numerosos obstáculos y restricciones a los que se enfrentan las abogadas y los abogados en Venezuela al ejercer su profesión.
Las abogadass y los abogados que actúan de forma independiente son frecuentemente sometidos a acosos, intimidaciones, e incluso, a sanciones penales. Las abogadas y los abogados que actúan en casos de alto perfil, particularmente en casos con contenido político o que involucran violaciones a los derechos humanos, están especialmente en riesgo.
Como demuestra el documento, el entorno institucional no garantiza adecuadamente la independencia del sistema judicial, ni la protección de los derechos humanos.
