The system of government inherited by many new independent States in Africa from the colonial powers has been one of parliamentary democracy based on the political party system.
The purpose of some articles of this edition is to investigate the role played by parties in opposition to the government.
This edition features a survey with special emphasis on elections results made of nineteen independent countries in Africa. As a result, some conclusions are drawn on the prospects for the rule of law in the region.
