Judges and lawyers in Colombia work in a dangerous profession, says a report issued today by the ICJ, which documents 515 cases of violence against Colombian lawyers and judges between 1979 and 1991. More than half of the victims, 278 jurists, were murdered.<
At the first meeting of the ICJ, one of the participants, Walter Linse, was kidnapped and never seen again.
Adama Dieng, a Senegalese jurist, has been named Secretary-General of the ICJ, it was announced today in Geneva. Dieng replaces Niall MacDermot who headed the ICJ for 20 years and who retired last month.
The newly-appointed Secretary-General of the ICJ, Sir Leslie Munro, will be visiting Karachi in mid-January in connection with a three-month mission to the Far East.
Effective July 1st, 1961, Sir Leslie Munro, K.C.M.G., K.C.V.O., will succeed Dr. Jean-Flavien Lalive as Secretary-General of the ICJ.
