The ICJ today called upon the Government to respect an Interim Order of the Supreme Court to ensure that funds are available to hold local elections and for the Speaker of Parliament to withdraw his referral of Supreme Court Judges for inquiry of a potential breach of parliamentary privileges.

Uzbekistan is a party to most of the principal human rights treaties, but the UN Committees that review compliance of States with obligations those treaties have identified a number of shortcomings in the country’s implementation and have recommended what needs to be done ensure better compliance.
