The ICJ denounced today the ongoing civil society crackdown through Egypt’s abuse of counter-terrorism measures at the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights while Countering Terrorism.
The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) submitted an open letter to Vietnam’s Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Public Security to denounce the ongoing criminal investigation of Dang Dinh Manh under article 331 of Vietnam’s Penal Code, in relation to the legitimate exercise of his professional duties and right to freedom of expression.
The ICJ today called upon the Government to respect an Interim Order of the Supreme Court to ensure that funds are available to hold local elections and for the Speaker of Parliament to withdraw his referral of Supreme Court Judges for inquiry of a potential breach of parliamentary privileges.

The convictions by the Emergency State Security Court (ESSC) of 30 defendants, 16 of whom are in custody, including members of the Egyptian Coordination for Rights and Freedoms (ECRF), solely for the lawful exercise of their rights to freedom of expression, association and assembly must be quashed and those imprisoned must be immediately and unconditionally released, the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) said today.
