Russian Federation: illegal invasion of Ukraine is no excuse for clampdown on peaceful protest at home
The Russian authorities’ suppression of peaceful protests and criticism of its invasion of Ukraine must end, the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) said today, as the number of reported arrests of the anti-war protests in the Russian Federation reaches more than six thousand eight hundred people.

As the Russian Federation launches a military invasion of Ukraine, its forces and those of other parties to the conflict must respect international law and protect civilian lives, the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) urged today.
South Africa: ICJ makes submissions to the Constitutional Court on the human rights compatibility of prohibiting non-citizen lawyers from practising in South Africa
Today, the ICJ will present oral arguments in a constitutional challenge to a provision of the Legal Practice Act before the Constitutional Court. The provision prohibits otherwise qualified lawyers from practising law in South Africa merely because they are not South African citizens or permanent residents.
