2. The “most serious crimes” requirement
150. The death penalty appears to continue to be applicable for the offences of apostasy, homosexual acts and adultery, which were all found by the Human Rights Committee not to fulfill the criteria of “most serious crimes” when it considered, in 1997, the second periodic report of the Sudan under the Covenant.
