On 2 May 2024, the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) held a meeting for EU lawyers to discuss the right of judges to independence, as established by the jurisprudence of the Inter-American system.
On 21-22 March 2024, the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), together with Forum for Human Rights, Human Rights in Practice, aditus and Free Courts, held a workshop on tackling attacks on judicial independence and the autonomy of the prosecution through disciplinary and criminal proceedings, in Prague.
The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) underlines the need for the judiciary to step in to enforce the right to education and to improve access to quality education in Kenya. In addition, and in partnership with the East African Centre for Human Rights (EACHRights), the ICJ calls on the Kenyan authorities to adopt effective measures to ensure the effective implementation of public education and regulation of private actors in education, to meet its international legal obligations.
On the 30th of April the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), in collaboration of the High Court Bar Association, Nepalgunj, Lumbini Province held a workshop on the potential for strategic litigation in Nepal as a tool to ensure the realization of the right to education. The workshop focused on international human rights law and standards relating to the right to education, such as the Abidjan Principles on the human rights obligations of States to provide public education and to regulate private involvement in education (the Abidjan Principles), and those emerging from the jurisprudence of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) under International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).
