Human rights lawyer prevented from leaving the country
In its third letter to President Assad of Syria, the ICJ urged the Syrian Government to allow Mr. Al-Maleh, a prominent human rights lawyer, to leave the country.

Les violations flagrantes des droits de l’homme et du droit humanitaire perdurent en toute impunité.
Lawyer Al-Maleh to be tried by military judge
The ICJ expressed its deep concern to the Syrian authorities regarding Haythem Al-Maleh, the Director of the Human Rights Association who will face a trial before a military judge on 18 January 2003.
Human rights lawyer sentenced to five years imprisonment in Syria
The ICJ is dismayed that Habib Issa, a Syrian lawyer and founding member of the Human Rights Association, was sentenced on 19 August to five years imprisonment by the Syrian Supreme State Security Court for – among other charges – attempting to change the constitution by illegal means.
