Juristas llaman a aprobación de CICIG
La CIJ llamó hoy al Congreso de Guatemala a aprobar, sin demoras ni reservas, el Acuerdo que establece una Comisión Internacional contra la Impunidad en dicho país.
IELSUR Organiza Seminario sobre Acceso a la Justicia y Administración de Justicia
El Instituto de Estudios Legales y Sociales del Uruguay, organización uruguaya afiliada a la CIJ, organizará un seminario sobre “Acceso a la Justicia y Administración de Justicia” el 4 de diciembre en Montevideo, Uruguay.
El seminario estará auspiciado por el Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo (PNUD) y la Oficina del Alto Comisionado de las Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos (OACDH) y contará con la participación de expertos nacionales e internacionales sobre la materia.

Los arrestos del ex presidente Juan María Bordaberry (photo) y el ex canciller Juan Carlos Blanco constituyen un importante paso en la lucha contra la impunidad en el Uruguay, manifestaron hoy la CIJ y IELSUR.
Paso importante pero incompleto contra la impunidad en Guatemala
La aceptación por parte de la justicia guatemalteca de las órdenes de captura emitidas contra cuatro militares acusados de haber cometido graves violaciones de derechos humanos constituye un paso adelante en la lucha contra la impunidad.
Eminent Jurists conclude hearing on Southern Cone
The “Eminent Jurists Panel on Terrorism, Counter-terrorism and Human Rights” concluded its hearing in Buenos Aires on lessons learned from the Southern Cone during the 70’s and 80’s.
The Panel received detailed accounts from human rights organizations, lawyers, prosecutors and other government representatives on the laws, practices and policies adopted during that period. Participants from Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay and Brazil gave testimonies at the hearing. The Panel members also had the opportunity to meet with the following high-level authorities in Argentina: the Foreign Minister, the Justice Minister and the Secretary and Sub-Secretary of Human Rights. The Panel wishes to thank the Argentinean government for its openness, as well as the Centro de Estudios Legales y Sociales (CELS, Centre for Legal and Social Studies) and the Law School of the University of Buenos Aires for their invaluable assistance in the organization of this event.
