La Conférence sera l’aboutissement de l’étape initiale d’un projet mené par la Commission Internationale de Juristes visant à identifier les facteurs légaux et procéduraux les plus importants pour assurer un accès adéquat à la justice et un recours efficace pour les victimes des abus des droits de l’Homme réalisés par les sociétés.
Cette conférence visera également à identifier les zones problématiques qui doivent être remarquées ainsi que les opportunités potentielles qui doivent être réalisées.
La Conférence marquera une importante avancée pour la construction d’un consensus international sur le programme d’accès à la justice pour tous ceux dont les droits ont été affectés par des entreprises, y compris des sociétés multinationales.
C’est pour cela que l’accent sera mis sur la délimitation d’un rôle pour les juges et les avocats dans la protection des droits de l’Homme dans ce contexte.
La CJI préparera un rapport général après la Conférence qui inclura les actions suggérées et les possibles chemins à suivre.

An ICJ delegation visited Maldives to assess progress towards the establishment of an independent, impartial, and competent judiciary, and make recommendations.
The ICJ urged collaboration by all political parties and authorities to support the consolidation of an independent, impartial, and competent judiciary. The delegation noted remaining challenges in this regard as well as steps to take the process beyond recent controversies.

The side event, held during the 15th session of the UN Human Rights Council, will look into the human rights situation in Sri Lanka, in the aftermath of May 2009.
The post-conflict phase in Sri Lanka is failing to meet minimal expectations on rule of law, democratic participation, investigation of, and accountability, for human rights violations, and ending impunity; not to mention social rehabilitation and political reconciliation after war. The side event will particularly focus on three issues: alleged war crimes, the fate of surrendered Tamil combatants and the governance on human rights and impunity.
