The ICJ and Justice for Peace Foundation (JPF) held a multi-stakeholder roundtable dialogue on women’s access to justice in Bangkok, Thailand on 19 and 20 March 2012.
The event marked an important stage in the ongoing ICJ-JPF initiative on women’s access to justice in Thailand.
It convened a group of experts from accross Thailand to discuss and review a draft ICJ-JPF report on the obstacles to justice women continue to face in Thailand.
Participants included women human rights defenders, lawyers, representatives of NGOs and academic experts.
When released the ICJ-JPF will capture and explore the accounts of barriers received from stakeholders accross Thailand through extensive field research accross the country during 2011.
It will identify a series of responsive recommendations endorsed by roundtable participants.

Under the second cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism, the UN Human Rights Council Working Group on the UPR will be undertaking a review of South Africa during its 13th session in June 2012.
In a submission to the Working Group, the International Commission of Jurists has focused on the issues of: access to justice, especially in the context of business and human rights; sexual violence, including on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity; the protection of migrant rights; police accountability and oversight; and international human rights instruments and South Africa’s cooperation with the UN treaty bodies and the Council’s Special Procedures.

The ICJ and other NGOs submitted written comments to the informal group on accession of the European Union to the European Convention on Human Rights on the occasion of its meeting of 6-8 December 2010.
The NGO paper addressed the proposed co-respondent mechanism of the European Court of Human Rights and consultation with civil society on EU accession to the European Convention on Human Rights.

Entre los días 6 y 10 de diciembre de 2010, la CIJ llevó a cabo una misión de alto nivel a Honduras, con el fin de observar la situación de la independencia judicial.
La delegación de la CIJ mantuvo reuniones con organizaciones de la sociedad civil, defensores de los derechos humanos, dirigentes comunitarios, dirigentes sociales, autoridades de gobierno al más alto nivel, representantes de la Comunidad Internacional, organismos intergubernamentales, representantes del Organismo Legislativo y otros actores relacionados con el derecho de acceso a la justicia y la independencia del Poder Judicial. La visita se enmarcó dentro de los esfuerzos que la CIJ lleva a cabo en distintos países para acompañar el proceso de democratización de la justicia y el respeto a la independencia judicial.
