On 13th and 14th August 2010, the Tanganyika Law Society (TLS) held their Half Annual General Meeting in Dodoma, Tanzania, with Arnold Tsunga, Director of the ICJ Africa Regional Programme, as a guest speaker.
The theme of the meeting was The TLS at 56 – Interrogating the Role of the Law Society in Consolidating Rule of Law and Democracy in Tanzania. Arnold Tsunga (photo) presented a paper at the meeting titled “Rule of Law and Elections in Africa – Recent Experiences.

The ICJ addressed the persistent failure of Iran to meet many of its human rights obligations and the wave of fresh human rights violations in the country in the aftermath of the June 2009 disputed presidential election.
The ICJ urged Iran to refrain from torture and ill treatment, end violations of freedoms of expression and assembly, abolish the death penalty and co-operate with international human rights mechanisms, including the Special Procedures of the UN Human Rights Council and the treaty bodies.

The ICJ wrote to President Mubarak and Minister of Justice to express concerns regarding the lifting of immunity of seven judges to question them for having reported voting irregularities during parliamentary elections.
